About the game

Vroomble is a free 3D arcade racing game with chunky toy cars. You drive from behind the car, slide through the corners and race five computer-driven rivals to the finish line. Hold the drift button in a bend and sparks fly from the rear wheels: first blue, then orange, then pink. Let go and the car shoots forward with a boost. Blue arrow pads give extra speed, coins wait on the road, and slippery patches try to spin you out.

Win stars in 20 races across five cups, on 12 tracks in six worlds: a sunny beach, a pine forest, a desert canyon, snowy mountains, a neon city at night and a land of sweets, plus mirrored and reversed versions at sunset. Chase your own ghost in Time trial for bronze, silver and gold medals, try the Daily race, and spend your coins in the Garage on six cars, upgrades and paint. Your progress is saved in your browser.

How to play

  • The car accelerates by itself: steer with the arrow keys or A and D, or with the ◀ ▶ buttons on a touch screen.
  • In a corner, hold Space (or the DRIFT button) while you steer to slide round it.
  • Let go of the drift when sparks appear to fire a boost. Blue sparks are a small boost, orange a bigger one, pink the biggest.
  • Drive over blue arrow pads for a free boost, collect coins and keep away from the verge and from slippery patches.
  • Finish in the top 3 to open the next race. 1st place gives 3 stars.
  • Arrow down or S brakes, R puts you back on the track, P or Esc pauses. A gamepad works too.

Tips and tricks

  • Start the drift a little before the corner, not in the middle of it. The car needs a moment to swing round.
  • While drifting you can still steer: turn into the corner to make the slide tighter, turn the other way to make it wider.
  • Wait for the sparks to change colour before you let go. Orange and pink boosts last much longer than blue ones.
  • On gentle bends skip the drift and just steer. A drift always turns the car quite a lot.
  • The sandy, grassy or snowy verge next to the kerbs slows you down a lot. A boost helps you get out of it faster.
  • The yellow arrow boards on the outside of a bend warn you that a sharp corner is coming.
  • Stuck on a cup? Upgrade the engine and the tyres of your car in the Garage, or replay earlier races and time trials for more coins.

Frequently asked questions

Is Vroomble free?

Yes. Vroomble is free, runs in your browser and needs no download and no account. Coins are only earned by racing; nothing can be bought with real money.

Does it work on phones and tablets?

Yes. On a touch screen you get ◀ ▶ buttons for steering, a DRIFT button and a small brake button, and the car accelerates by itself. It plays best in landscape but also works in portrait. The game lowers its graphics detail by itself on slower devices, and you can choose the detail in the settings.

How do I get 3 stars?

Stars depend on your finishing place: 1st place gives 3 stars, 2nd gives 2 and 3rd gives 1. You need a place in the top 3 to open the next race. The stars and trophies of a cup come from your best result in each of its four races.

How does drifting work?

Hold Space (or the DRIFT button) while steering at speed. The car slides and a meter fills up. After a short while blue sparks appear, later orange and then pink ones. When you let go of the button, you get a boost that matches the colour.

Are the other drivers real players?

No. The five rivals are driven by the computer and are marked CPU in the results. They get faster from cup to cup, so upgrading your car helps in the later cups.

Is my progress saved?

Yes. Stars, coins, cars, upgrades, paint, best laps and your ghost laps are saved in the browser on your device.
